CHARITIES

ASSOCIATED CHARITIES Share the Warmth is a program that benefits numerous families and individuals in North Winnipeg. Together with the North Point Douglas residents, Siloam Mission, Main Street Project and the North Point Douglas Women's Centre we are able to bring much needed warm winter clothing to families and individuals. We are seeking warm winter wear: coats, parkas, hats, toques, mittens and scarves for all ages. For many of our community members, warm clothing can make a great impact on physical as well as mental health. Once the clothing is sorted and cleaned it will be distributed directly to community members through community partner agencies. They are: North Point Douglas Women's Centre, Siloam Mission, Main Street Project, Ndiniway, the North Main Age and Opportunity Centre, local senior's housing and others. 2010 Winnipeg Santa Claus Parade Day Activities - November 13, 2010 Volunteers will be located at each Block to pick up clothing items along the Parade route. On behalf of Share the Warmth, thank you. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.
The Cheer Board was started in 1919 by a number of Winnipeg churches. The original intent was to provide Christmas Hampers and toys for the widows and orphans of the soldiers lost during World War I. The churches operated as a loose group for many years and realized very quickly that there were many other families in the community that also needed help at Christmas. As the project grew it became necessary for the churches to work with each other in order to coordinate the Christmas giving in the community. In the mid-forties the churches decided that everything should be brought into one organization in order to better look after needy families in our community. The Christmas Cheer Board attempts to coordinate all Christmas giving in order to eliminate duplications. The Cheer Board provides assistance to families receiving Provincial Assistance as well as many of the working poor. More than half of all the food and toys are donated by individuals and companies, the balance of everything that is required is purchased by the Cheer Board. Volunteers look after all aspects of the Cheer Board and involves almost 5,000 people. Hampers are packed by school children, seniors knit all year to provide little extra gifts, volunteer drivers deliver all the hampers and individuals, community groups and companies help raise the money needed. Winnipeg Santa Claus Parade Day Activities - November 13, 2010 Volunteers from the Christmas Cheer Board will be picking up items along the Parade route. If you are interested in donating items please bring non-perishable food item or new unwrapped gifts to the Parade. These items can also be dropped of at various drop off bins located along the Parade route and will be picked up as the Christmas Cheer Board Van passes by. On behalf of the Christmas Cheer Board - thank-you. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. For more information check out the Christmas Cheer Board website at:
